South Leeward Highway, St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Welcome to the official contractor's website for the South Leeward Highway rehabilitation and upgrade project.
The South Leeward Highway project due to commence in August 2014 entails the rehabilitation of the existing narrow built up corridor, traversing 11.4 km of undulating topography from the capital Kingstown to the town of Layou.
The required pavement improvement works will consist of removing the deteriorated asphalt surface, addition of crushed stone base and the laying of a new asphalt surface. Bridge works will consist of reconditioning or replacing damaged I beams. Stone masonry gravity retaining walls will be added to support road embankment. Concrete drains and sidewalks will also be added. The contractor will also be collaborating with the utility companies to make any necessary adjustments or improvements to the existing utilities along the route.
The funding agency has stipulated that the Government employ a Community Liaison Officer be part of the Ministry of Transport and Works project team to facilitate interfacing with affected residents and the general public.
